The increasing level of digitalisation of industrial plants calls for the further development of existing Ethernet cabling. For sensors and local, modular control units in particular, conventional cabling concepts are no longer able to meet the new demands with regard to space requirements and installation effort.
Weidmüller and partners from the field of electrical connectivity all rely on the innovative Single Pair Ethernet technology when developing new industry standards.
Double port density thanks to 50% reduction in size compared to RJ45 connectors.
End-to-end, scalable and deterministic networking from the sensor to the cloud.
The plug-in connectors are designed in accordance with IEC specifications and IEEE recommendations and standards.
Instead of two or four pairs of wires, Single Pair Ethernet cabling requires just one pair of wires for the transmission of data and power. The simple design and the associated reduction in weight, space requirements and installation costs offer many advantages in an industrial environment. Single Pair Ethernet enables the end-to-end, economical connection of a large number of terminal devices in the Industrial IOT, from sensors in the field to the cloud.
Deploying Single Pair Ethernet guarantees the future security of your investment. The concept allows you to expand existing installations and it supports the evermore urgent demand for end-to-end communication based on the Ethernet protocol.
Weidmüller supports connector development of the IEC 63171-2 variant for the IP20 environment and the IEC 63171-5 variant for the IP67 environment, in the AWG 26 to AWG 22 range. The new connector range is freely combinable and supports end-to-end, application-independent transmission, from the workstation through the industrial cabling to the cloud.
Four SPE cabling connections (cable-sharing) can be achieved with the 4-chamber variant. The arrangement of contacts ensures ideal electrical properties. The vertically aligned contact pairs minimise interferences between the individual cables. Residual interferences are reduced by the additional shielded cross. Thanks to this ultra-compact design, four Single Pair Ethernet ports are possible in the installation space normally taken up by one RJ45 plug-in connector.
When developing new standards, the most important task is to establish a uniform and application-independent plug-in-connector face. Together with manufacturers such as Belden, Fluke Networks, Phoenix Contact, Reichle & De-Massari, Rosenberger Hochfrequenztechnik and Telegärtner Elektronik, Weidmüller supports the currently submitted standardization variants according to IEC 63171-2 for IP20 and IEC 63171-5 for IP67.
